Snapshot! June 6, 2012, Council Meeting

SUNYLA Snapshot
June 6, 2012

The early part of the meeting was dedicated to a discussion about shared positions/services between SUNY campuses: SUNYIT is now a sharing library director with Morrisville.

Rosanne is still looking into creating an information packet of sorts for qualifications for housing SUNYLA conferences. SUNYLA 2013 will be held at Buffalo State.

During the last meeting the idea of creating a liaison relationship with IDS was mentioned. April has approached Ed Rivenburgh (outgoing IDS Director) about this and he was very supportive of the collaboration.

Dan Harms has been investigating options for a digital repository for SUNYLA’s born digital documents. He is currently planning to approach University of Buffalo archivist to see if they would be willing to provide space for a digital repository in addition to the physical one we currently have with them.

The Library Certificate Program for Innovative Library Services through Technologies is moving forward and will soon be offered by SUNY Center for Professional Development. SCLD endorsed the effort at their last meeting. SUNYLA executive board also officially endorsed it during the June 6th meeting.

Jason Kramer, from NYSHEI, has requested to engage in a collaborative agreement with SUNYLA. There was a lengthy conversation about whether to agree to the request. At the heart of the discussion was the recent vote by SCLD to withdraw 50% of their funds to NYSHEI and whether that should have any bearing on SUNLYA’s decision to engage in an agreement. No clear consensus was reached by the committee but it was suggested that we invite Jason to the September meeting so he can present some current/future initiatives before making our final decision.

Next meeting will be on September 21st at SUNY Empire.
